The basics

What is an Employer of Record?

An Employer of Record (EOR) is a company that legally employs staff on your behalf in a country where you have no legal entity.

The person you hire works for you day to day — your projects, your managers, your direction. On paper, though, they are employed by the EOR, which holds the local employment contract and takes on everything the law requires an employer to do: payroll, tax, statutory contributions, and compliance.

For a company outside Sri Lanka, that removes the usual barrier to hiring here. You don't register a company, open a local bank account, or take on a Sri Lankan tax presence. You hire the person you want, and ReadyWorkforce handles the rest.

Many clients start with an EOR to test the market, then move to their own entity once headcount justifies it. We manage that transition when the time comes.

The compliance detail

The statutory obligations, explained.

Every one of these is calculated, deducted, remitted, and filed for you. They also appear as clear line items in the monthly cost estimate we send.

EPF

Employer 12% / Employee 8%

The Employees' Provident Fund is a mandatory retirement contribution. The employer adds 12% on top of gross salary; the employee's 8% is deducted from it. Remitted monthly.

ETF

Employer 3%

The Employees' Trust Fund is a separate employer-only contribution of 3% of gross, again remitted monthly. There is no employee deduction for ETF.

APIT

Deducted at source

Advance Personal Income Tax is the employee's income tax, calculated on their earnings and withheld by the employer each month. We handle calculation, deduction, and filing.

Gratuity

After 5 years' service

Employees completing five years of continuous service become entitled to a gratuity payment on leaving. We provision for it monthly, so the liability never arrives as a surprise.

Rates and thresholds shown are indicative. Confirm current figures with a qualified adviser before relying on them — we keep every client's payroll aligned with the rules in force.
